English friends each year and try to meet at a cathedral, this all started when we met up years ago in York in front of the Minster, so keeping the tradition going it was the turn of Durham.
These are the friends who introduced me to geocaching, and now they have got me into looking for Munzee's. you need an iphone or an Android or smart phone to be able to play, hopefully santa is bringing me an iphone :-)
So what is a Munzee? Again it is a kind of treasure hunt but this time instead of containers to search for we are looking for QR the little black and white codes that can be scanned with the above phones. Well we searched Durham as my friend has a smart phone, bingo first one found, but only for her as I didn't think my phone would scan. After that it was all downhill searching for Munzees, but never mind we had geocaches on our GPS's to look for, we found quite a few throughout the city, and also managed to complete a number of challenges, to see us dancing in a town square whilst our dear hubbies took our photographs and the men thinking "they are not with US!" But at least we waited until the light was fading! and hoped there would not be as many folk about. All good fun, quite a few challenges done.
After a couple of days it was time to say goodbye and for us to head to Leicestershire to visit our older daughter, son in law and 2 little granddaughters. The weather was great for us to get out and about, and again I managed one challenge and 3 caches. So now I am at 303 caches found and 46 challenges completed, still a long long way to go to catch up with my friend who has found i think 1500' they are away a lot with their caravan so that helps visiting all the different places and geocaching at the same time.
Today hubby and I went to Troon just a few miles along from Ayr to see if we could find any Munzees with my phone, so we are home with 2 marked as found, not as many Munzees about as caches, but it is growing,. Last night I hid my first Munzee, which has still to be found, and as far as I know so far it is the only one here.
2 OAP's (no, make that 2 recycled teenagers!)
completing a challenge dancing in a town square!!!!
we waited until it was getting dark, we're not daft... ok we are!
Our version of the Can Can (below right) on a stage, just our dear hubbies nearby (thank goodness) I am on the left.
Another challenge with the large door knockers of Durham Cathedral
Now you would think we would all know better! this is DH and my friend searching a bus stop for a Munzee, yes that is my DH thinking he is a boy again, climbing!! Her hubby was in the shelter (that isn't him in there though) and I took the photo. Well I did need evidence! to show our daughters what their parents get up too.
And here is Durham Cathedral in the distance, light was fading as we walked back along the river Wear after our dinner at a nice chinese restaurant.
You have had a FUN time hun! Would love to have seen you dancing, lol. I really like the sound of the geocaching and Munzees but sadly don't really have the time to go off searching. What ever happened to the good old fashioned weekend treasure hunts? They used to be so popular. Hugs Sxx
